Denver Weds, the Mayor says stay home don’t Travel. Denver Thanksgiving, the Mayor is at the airport traveling. Denver media instantly looses their minds. To say a politician is dishonest is redundant. The real problem (to my thinking) is not that he went on a trip, it is that he told everybody else not to travel. Air travel has not had a Covid-19 incident since travel resumed in May. The media and politicians are happy to blame you and me for not doing all you can do to stop the spread, yet everywhere I look I see people doing what they can. Face, hands, feet, We are covering our face, sanitizing our hands and staying 6 feet apart from each other. None of us wants to be sick and more importantly no one wants to be responsible for someone else getting sick.
One of the News programs I watch said 1 in 49 people in Colorado have Covid, in the next segment they said if you went to Thanksgiving with 10 people you would likely be exposed. I’m not sure but that is not the math I learned! We need to get past the fear mongering and look at what works and what doesn’t work. Travel is only a cause if you don’t follow Face, hands, feet. Know where you are going and take responsibility for traveling safely.
Tom you say I’m not ready to travel yet,. I’ll ask if not now when? If when is something you are thinking about than this weekend is an unbelievable time to lock in some to the lowest rates with the best cancellation policies I have ever seen. As we get closer to a vaccine think May/June 2021 the prices will stay low but the cancellation policy’s will go away. With the vaccine still a ways away locking in the prices now with easy cancellation is good thinking.
In Vegas right now you have to work to find a room over $100 a night. At most Vegas hotels the daily hotel fee is higher than the room rate (yup that’s nuts). The Caribbean and Mexico would love to see you right now but are more than happy to sell you a room at today’s rate for next fall. Cruise Lines are sailing in Europe right now so for us there are human experiments for us to base future travel on. MSC cruise lines are currently sailing, their policies are a negative test to board, temperature tests each time you enter or leave the ship and all excursions must be led by MSC crew. There is zero tolerance for anyone not following these rules. A family left an excursion and was not allowed to reboard the ship. Would I recommend cruising tomorrow, no (wish I could) but no. Would I look at a cruise that is offering $1000 off and $400 or onboard credit for next September with cancellation up to 3 days prior to sailing? That is something I might consider.
