Day 3 New Orleans Pandemic Travel 2021

Last day in New Orleans, An epic Mass, a river cruise, and another fantastic restaurant.

A beautiful December morning in New Orleans. Visions of last night’s music and merriment danced in our heads. We head out for a beignet and coffee and then off to the Saint Louis Cathedral for Sunday Mass. On our way over we saw a large number of first responders and wondered what was going on. When we got to the church we found out it was a Mass for the First Responders with a special intention for those who were wounded or perished in the line of duty.

Archbishop Aymond said the mass and it was a beautiful tribute and remembrance for all in attendance. It was I mass I will not soon forget.

Now it is down to the Dock and a trip down the Mississippi on the Creole Queen paddlewheel ship.  This cruise came highly recommended by one of my vendors who said the cruise and narration are wonderful, you can skip the buffet. We had a nice cup of jumbo and a cheap bottle of white wine and we were set. The narrator was Charles and he was an army man, lawyer, and paddlewheel ship narrator and a wonder to behold. His hold on New Orleans’s history and storytelling made the trip so much better. Now New Orleans Storytellers are a dime a dozen but Charles went way above and beyond.  If you want to hear a chilling and moving story about hurricane Katrina stay upstairs for the last half hour of the Cruise. A fantastic way to spend 4 hours.

Dr. Steve recommended our dining choice for the evening. Oh boy did he do a good job. I never thought I would say modern BBQ but Cochon (James Beard-nominated) fits that bill. A unique menu of delicious entrees’ we had the Beef short rib and the Oyster and bacon sandwich and the blue crab small plate. Wow, what a great meal to end our stay in New Orleans.

Summing up our trip to New Orleans. If you fly in on a Friday night your rideshare from the airport will be super surge pricing. It was almost 3 times higher than our Monday morning trip back.  You will need your Vaccine card. Entry to bars, restaurants, and almost everywhere else. It is not the place to visit if you are doing a “Dry” January or a “Dry” anything. The music is phenomenal as you would expect and the food is even better.  Book your trip through a travel advisor to get the best info, hotels, and restaurants with never a fee to you.
