Through the end of May if you would like to go Intra Island as we did from Maui to Kona. You will need another negative Covid 19 test. We choose CVS which promised 24 hour turnaround (Come on Hawaii you force a 2nd test and then don’t offer rapid test). We get a phone call prior to the test saying test results will not be returned for 4 days. That’s no bueno. The pharmacist at CVS recommended we try Minit Medical across the street since that was where CVS sends it’s test and that would save a day. The Minit tester was of the Arron Rodgers school and told us to R E L A X and it will all take care of itself. She was right it did and with in 24 hours everything was uploaded into Safe Travels Hawaii. The procedure at the Kona airport was quick and easy and we were on way. The rental experience was “ok” but our convertible was not available, I took a red Jeep CJ which is a blast to drive.
We are staying at the Westin Hapuna Beach resort at the Mauna Kea Beach Resort. This place is amazing, for the hustle of West Maui where there are at least 14 major hotels on a 2 mile board walk. To kinda being able to see the next resort about 4 miles away
The main restaurant on property is the Meridia a Mediterranean style restaurant with a wide tapas menu and a huge wine list. With the Mauna Kea, Fairmont Orchard and Mauna Lani resort all with in 10 minutes or so there are a lot of dining options. Restaurants are slowly reopening, the town of Kona still has a lot of retail space and restaurants that have not reopened which is a little sad.
The Mauna Lani and Waikiki have dining options that are not associated with the resorts. We had dinner at the Tommy Bahama restaurant at Mauna Lani and it was nice with a wonderful sunset as well. We have eaten twice at Medina and it is wonderful try the “Paella Mixta” and the “Charcuteri Plate de Maison.
Always lunch at the Kona brewery delights.
