iL Porcellino Salumi Artisanal Deli
Now, I don’t know about you, but I trust Guy Fieri when it comes to sandwiches. And he was right to feature Denver’s Il Porcellino Salumi on Fieri’s Food Network Show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” in 2020. This Berkeley butcher shop and deli, which makes 45 different kinds of salumi in-house, is one of my top sandwich shops around town. Fieri’s favorite was The Hoggie sandwich, which he called “the definition of an Italian deli sandwich,” but mine is The Bacon with shaved bacon made in-house, apple butter, jalapeno aioli, tomato, pecora fondue and lettuce on country toast. Every ingredient is meant to be on there, and the variety of the aioli, butter and fondue pack a punch of flavor and make it impossible to have a dry bite. Thanks to the Denver Posts Stuffed for pointing me to this restaurant .
So your restaurant has a famous patron, but is a long drive from the closest exit. But that patron is more than famous he is also powerful. So President Dwight D Eisenhower says I want an exit at El Rancho, and his assistant says you can’t do that, you cannot say where the exit goes. A group of nodding yes men circle the president giving ridiculous suggestions, than Ike says, go over the rules again. You can only build an exit to an existing town with a post office. Then he says am I not the Postmaster General, Hrrrumph says the patsy’s. Hey I didn’t get a Hrrrumph from you. Well than I here by declare that the El Rancho restaurant is now the post office too and that for the mail to be delivered we need an El Rancho exit, and so it was done. For the longest time great roast beef than it kinda went away for a while and now it is back. Hoping it will be another long run for you folks and can’t wait to try you again.
